Board Committees

Board Committees meet monthly as part of the administrative management function for the Village. The Mayor with the approval of the Village Board nominates members and positions for each committee. Term limits are not relevant to these committees and appointed members remain until reassigned or replaced due to changes in the Board as a part of election terms.

The function of each Committee is to take direction from the Mayor and Board on specific items that they then investigate in order to provide recommendations to the Village Board for legislative approval and action. The Board has the option to accept or reject recommendations based on the full Board's evaluation of the information provided by the Committee. The Mayor is a non-voting member of every committee.

Finance Committee

Trustee Maier is Chairperson; Members: Trustees Smolic and Towne.

The function of the Finance Committee is to manage the financial functions of the Village. Key reoccurring projects this committee handles include: monthly Village bills, audits, securing bonds, insurance, budget tracking, historical analysis. This Committee interfaces with the Village Board, Treasurer, Financial Consultant, Village Attorney, Illinois and County agencies pertaining to tax and revenue issues, bond counsel and consultant, insurance agent, banks and other financial institutions dealing with the investment of Village funds.

The Finance Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM.

Parks and Recreation Committee

Trustee Clark is Chairperson; Members Trustees Armstrong, and Pelech.

The function of the P&RC is to manage the administrative functions involving Village Parks and other Village owned properties, as well as all Village Trails. Key reoccurring projects for this committee are trail and park maintenance. The P&RC interfaces with various contractors, the Village attorney, including MOLA and other Village Committees.

The Parks and Recreation Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.

Public Safety Commission

Trustee Towne along with various Village Officials manage the administrative functions involving Village Security. Key reoccurring projects include: monthly monitoring of Howe Security's services, interfacing with the Lake County Sheriff's department and two fire protection departments as well as Blackboard Connect (Village Alert System.)

Public Works Committee

Trustee Smolic is Chairperson; Members: Trustees Clark, and Pelech.

The function of the PWC committee is to manage the administrative infrastructure, permitting and engineering functions of the Village. Key reoccurring projects for this committee include: reviewing all engineering bills, permitting, work-permit inspections, roadway and culvert maintenance, signage, winter salt and plowing and mosquito abatement. The PWC interfaces with various contractors, Village engineering, the Village attorney on all bidding programs, and other Committees within the Village.

The Public Works Committee meets each the second
Wednesday of each month at 6:00 PM or following the Parks and Recreation
Committee.

Zoning, Planning and Appeals Commission

This resident volunteer Chairman deals with all Village administrative zoning and appeals issues.

This commission is made up of the following residents: Liz Leonard is Chairperson; Commissioners, Karen Carruthers, Pam Fantus, Mark Meluso, Orren Pickell, and Matt Witten along with the Village attorney and engineering.

While this Commission is scheduled to meet monthly to review active requests, it only meets if there is a zoning issue requiring an evaluation and recommendation to the Village Board for their final consideration and Public Hearing, if required.

The ZPA meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
